How we go about getting lights installed.
Projects to install our lights are not necessarily ‘owned’ by Lights For Learning. The work can often be carried out by other charities, individuals or companies who want to install lights into a particular school with which they already have an association. As long as the lights are to be used for educational purposes, Lights For Learning can help.
Our approach for making a project happen is similar for whether we own the project or not. If you, or an organisation has a project that wishes to use our lights here are 7 easy steps that will help make it happen:
- You make informal contact with Lights For Learning - we will be interested to hear about you and your proposal.
- We will ask you to complete an information-gathering document so we can then provide you with an estimate of how much the lights will cost. This will exclude the export shipping costs* to the destination country.
- With this information, we prepare more formal project documentation that includes the proposed layout of the lights and costs. For a typical block of 3 classrooms, we estimate around £1,000 or so—it does vary depending on the size of the classroom. If you want more than one block doing lighting, then the costs scale up accordingly.
- Raise the funds
- Once the funds are raised, we will manufacture the lighting system to suit your school.
- We will provide training to you to install the lights. This will need special attention and we recommend that you have someone on the project who is familiar with the basics of electrical wiring. We can talk about installing the lights for you, if necessary.
- Once manufactured, we send the lighting kit to you. It is then your responsibility to organise shipping to the project destination.
*We can provide advice and guidance for shipping - who to talk to, how to tackle import duty etc. As an example, on a recent trip to Zimbabwe, we installed lights in 6 locations; the weight of the kit was 1.5 tonnes. Again, we can point you in the right direction for shipping. Once you have been trained and the lighting kit has been sent to you, they are your lights for you to install.
